Successful school-to-work transitions are decisive in young persons‘ lives. They allow first insights into different industries and sectors and set the frame for future career paths.

The health and socioeconomic aftereffects of the pandemic, paired with the impacts and the consequences of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine have created new challenges for European labour markets, especially for young people.

To respond to this reality, the European Parliament demands a binding directive on quality traineeships to ensure minimum quality standards for trainees, including rules on adequate duration, remuneration and social protection.

CESI Youth invites you to this lunchtime discussion on active labour market policies to establish what provisions are needed to further improve traineeships and which further steps may be taken to protect young people from precarious work conditions during traineeships.

CESI Youth has been a long-time advocate of a fight against precarious work and a supporter of the European Youth Forum’s position on internship conditions and its campaign on banning unpaid internships.

The following speakers will introduce the debate:

  • Matthäus Fandrejewski, CESI Youth Representative
  • Shui Beam Lam, European Commission Directorate for Employment and Social Affairs
  • Claudia Pinto, European Youth Forum
  • Róbert Szokolai, MKKSZ
  • Cristian Villar, office of Alícia Homs, member of the European Parliament
  • Jan Wilker, StartNET
