On an initiative led by French trade union CFTC (EUROFEDOP), participants took part in an informative tour through the local network distribution centre of La Poste, in which mail is selected automatically on a daily basis before being delivered to the addressees.
This centre is gdue to be closed down in 2015 with the services being moved to a more modern centre in Strasbourg. This action will leave behind many workers without employment. Only those workers willing and able to move will be offered work in the Strasbourg centre, a demand which many workers with a stable life will be unable to adhere to. These measures were negotiated between employers and trade unions. The situation was deplored by Trade Council president Manfred Wiedner (EUROFEDOP).
During the preparatory meeting, the working groups set up the agenda for the plenary meeting in December and talked about the current developments on the national and European level, such as the European Parliament elections, the new European Commission and the advancement of the Telecom package, which is closely scrutinised by the Trace Council.
