04-05-2007: Europe Academy symposium in Seville: Integrating Young and Older Employees into the Labour Market

From 8 - 11 May, 2007, the Europe Academy, CESI’s Research and Further Training Centre, is holding an international symposium in Seville on "Integrating Young and Older Employees into the Labour Market". The event is the second in the series of conferences entitled "Europe’s Demographic Challenge - Ways out of the Crisis".
The four-day meeting, which around 150 guests from across Europe are expected to attend, will use a number of presentations and panel discussions to address issues such as "Youth unemployment and violence", "Does Europe need a new Youth Pact?", "Vocational training and lifelong learning as tools for integration" and "Making working life more flexible".
Speakers include Cándida Martínez López (Ministry for Education, Andalusia), José Luis Pérez Iriarte (Spanish Ministry for Education and Science), Domingo Fernández Veiguela (Vice-President of CESI, President of CSI-CSIF, Spain), Carmen Ionescu (Democratic Trade Union Federation, Romania), Kurt Berlinger (Federal Labour Agency, Germany) and Rob Egberts (Ministry for Labour and Social Affairs, Netherlands).
Europe Academy President Peter Heesen declared: "The fact that we are living longer and longer is leading to old-age pension schemes coning under an increasing amount of pressure. At the same time, we can note that in large parts of Europe, there is high youth unemployment and that the employment quota amongst older workers is very low. The Europe Academy symposium will outline ways in which young people and older workers can be better integrated into the labour market so that their talents can be put to more effect and the old-age pension schemes can be unburdened".
