Social partners adopt resolution on
mobility in public administration On 29 May, 2006, the Directors General for public administration from the 25 EU Member States and TUNED, the joint EPSU/CESI trade union delegation, signed a resolution in Vienna on workers’ mobility in the field of central administration. The resolution was the result of a seminar held by the social partners on the same date in the Vienna Hofburg. In the joint declaration, the Directors General and trade unions stressed the importance of workers’ mobility when it came to promoting growth and employment. In this connection, they called on all public administrations and social partners in the Member States to work together to further improve the legal framework for workers’ mobility, without disregarding the particularities of public service. Finally, the signatories recognised that improving mobility went hand in hand with investments in jobs, both in the public and private sectors. Helmut Müllers, CESI's General Secretary, declared the seminar a success: "After the statement on equal opportunities signed in Gateshead last year, the resolution on workers’ mobility is the second joint declaration within the framework of what is at present the informal social dialogue in central administration. This resolution is a sign from the trade unions and Directors General that they can contribute in a valuable way to shaping such processes. It is our desire to build on these successes and step up our efforts to work more closely with the Directors General under the Finnish presidency."
