Portability of supplementary pension rights: CESI supports Commission's proposal
for a directive CESI reacted with agreement to the proposal for a directive on improving the portability of supplementary pension rights, recently presented by the Commission. "We are pleased to note that the Commission has, to a broad extent, satisfied the demands made by CESI within the framework of the previous consultations", said CESI General Secretary Helmut Müllers. In the face of cuts to the statutory pension systems, occupational pensions are growing in importance. The draft directive is on the right track, as far as the independent trade unions are concerned, because it makes it considerably easier to transfer occupational pension rights. On this, Müllers added: "This promotes employee mobility - a key factor in the fight against unemployment." There is only one issue on which CESI does not agree with the Commission: "We feel that setting a minimum age for joining an occupational pension scheme is unnecessary. Every young employee ought to be able to join this kind of scheme as soon as possible, in order to be able to reap the benefits of a supplementary pension", said Müllers. "We hope that more improvements are still to come." |
