04-10-2005:
CESI recognised as social partner In a meeting of CESI’s Executive Board on 4 October, 2005, General Secretary Helmut Müllers informed those present that CESI had been awarded the status of European social partner by the European Commission, as laid out in article 138 of the EC Treaty. Müllers said he viewed this step as a political breakthrough for CESI: "Since it was founded, CESI has fought to be recognised and for the realisation of trade union pluralism at European level. Now we have achieved our goal." "CESI is thus on an even footing with other European trade union associations and will in future be consulted on every socio-political initiative on the part of the Commission. We want to fulfil this new responsibility completely", added Müllers. CESI was awarded the status of social partner thanks to its representativeness in the field of central public administration. For General Secretary Müllers, it is now a matter of pressing on with developing the social dialogue in this sector: "The cooperation agreement signed in February 2005 with EPSU on forming a joint trade union delegation was an important step. Now, the employers’ side also needs to give itself a structure at European level, so that we can agree on working conditions and standards for civil servants within the framework of a formal social dialogue." |
