18-11-2004: Assumption of office of the new members of the European Commission:
CESI expects new impetus to the Lisbon strategy
On the occasion of the approval of the new members of the European Commission by
the European Parliament the Executive Board of CESI has adopted a
resolution. In it the CESI expects that, in view of the stagnation - and to
some extent even the regression - observed with regard to the implementation
of the Lisbon Strategy, the new Commission will provide new impetus.
It considers it a positive signal that the Commission President is to attend to
this dossier in person and that President Barroso has already said that the
pursuance of the Lisbon Strategy is his Commission’s most important objective.
In this
context, the CESI calls for the European Commission to adopt a balanced
approach for the second half of the implementation of the Lisbon Strategy,
taking adequate account of both economic and social interests. The
independent trade unions reject a one-sided focus on economic requirements.
Instead, greater emphasis must be placed on the social dimension of the Lisbon
Strategy.
