04-02-2004: "No reforms without trade unions" - President of CESI speaks at education conference in Portugal

 

On 2 and 3 February 2004 the ANP (Associação Nacional de Professores), Portuguese member organization of CESI organized its 20th. national conference in Braga on the subject "Education of quality - Country of excellence".
Besides the Portuguese Minister for Education, David Justino, the president of CESI, Valerio Salvatore, spoke to the 2000 participants during the opening session. He demanded that no reform in the education sector should take place without the trade unions. Moreover, he underlined that sufficient funds had to be provided for the necessary reforms. Especially reforms in the education sector should not only be looked at under cost aspects. In the first instance, they were investments in the future.
Finally, the president of CESI thanked ANP for its fruitful contributions to the "European Teachers’ Charta" which is being elaborated by the Education committee of CESI.
