On
7th May 2003 the CESI committee for "Employment, Social Affairs,
and Equal Opportunities" held its constituent meeting.
After
the adoption of the work programme the participants elected the
following speakers: Valentin VELLISCO (FASGA, Spain) for
Employment, Klaus DAUDERSTÄDT (dbb, Germany) for Social Affairs
and Kirsten LÜHMANN (dbb, Germany) for Equal Opportunities.
In
two resolutions the committee
admonished the European Commission to translate into action
its equal opportunities projects announced for 2003. This concerns
the revision of the existing directives on equal opportunities as
well as the gender balance within the committees and expert groups
established by the Commission.
Two
guest speakers participated in the meeting: Esteban LOZANO of the
Directorate General for Employment and Social Affairs of the
European Commission presented the recently published employment
package 2003. Lissy GRÖNER, MEP and speaker of the socialist
group for women’s rights talked about current issues and
activities of the European Parliament in the field of equal
opportunities. |
