13-12-2002: Peter HEESEN elected President of the Europe Academy

Peter Heesen

On 12th December 2002 the General Assembly of the Europe Academy elected Peter Heesen (DBB) as new President. Vice Presidents are Charles Bonnissol (CGC) and Fedele Ricciato (CONF.S.A.L.). Members of the new Board of Directors are, besides the President and the Vice Presidents, Monique Cartigny (CSEN), Rainer DUMONT DU VOITEL (FFPE), and Arne FREDERIKSEN (FF). Guy Lemoine (CESI) was re-elected as Director of the Academy.

In his speech Heesen, who is also Vice President of the DBB, outlined the programme for the next two years: He proposed to focus more on the organization of one-day conferences than on seminars lasting several days. His goal is to bring the Academy to a broader public attention and to enforce the dialogue with the European Institutions. Therefore, future conferences should be organized in cooperation with the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Economic and Social Committee or the Committee of the Regions, Heesen said. Representatives from these and other European Institutions will be invited as speakers.

The first conference on the "European Convention and the Future of Europe" is planned for May 2003. Details and further conferences will be announced in due time.
